Where do lessons take place? Generally, lessons take place at my home at 20 Amherst Road, but for students under 15 years old lessons can be arranged at your home if you live within 2 miles.

Can we have lessons online? Yes, of course! I taught lessons online with students around the globe before it was mainstream (and forced upon everyone by Covid), back in the halcyon days of 2011 when it was really impractical! These days it's much easier and the tools are only getting better. See the video for an example of what an online lesson is like.

When are you available? My teaching hours are generally Monday to Thursday 4-7pm, and Saturday to Sunday 10am-1pm.

My timetable is full as of January 2023, and I am not currently taking on new students.

I generally add more slots near exam periods, so check back in May if nothing is available or ask me and I'll put you on the waiting list.

What materials do you use to teach? A good carpenter only uses the necessary tools to complete the job, a good teacher likewise. Stripping away distractions during a lesson tends to make a student more focused. So it follows that in an ideal lesson the only tools I use are pen and paper. Even though I write all examples and questions myself, there are certain books or websites I use as references for bigger question banks. Some books and websites I recommend:

Other Oxbridge tutors charge over £70 per hour. Why are you so cheap/did you actually go to Oxford/what's going on? Lol. First of all, yes I did. But let me explain: incredibly, more than half of my students come from word-of-mouth, and I'm very grateful that what I do is so valued that they tell their friends and family. For the most part, that means I can get away without needing to sell myself through other companies or pay for ads: that's one reason my rate is quite cheap compared to the market price for tutors of my experience.

I'm also not interested in charging the most money I can get away with -- one can get into a heated debate about what a 'reasonable' price is in today's age, but unfortunately it's simply the case that a lot of people overcharge simply because they can. Suffice to say my rate reflects a balance between my teaching experience and my wish not to exclude students from low-income backgrounds.
